Here come the Google offers! Google has decided to get into the deals business, just like Groupon and so many others. I've been tweeting about this recently and it has spun a lot of articles in the media in the last few days. There are a few points of interest in this whole story.
Firstly, a lot of people are saying this new endeavor by Google is retribution for Groupon refusing the buy-out offer. They allegedly turned down a 6 billion $ offer from the search engine giant. Interestingly enough, not long after, Google starts up its own service with Google Offers.
It seems that this new service is slightly different from the group-buying services like Groupon, SwagJag, Swarm Jam or others. They instead display simple discounts for smaller, local businesses in their maps service.
One way or another, Google becomes another major player in the online discounts game. After seeing some initial results, their discounts are rather lackluster and certainly don't match up to the usual 50% Groupon offers every single day!
