Google offers incoming!!!

Here come the Google offers! Google has decided to get into the deals business, just like Groupon and so many others. I've been tweeting about this recently and it has spun a lot of articles in the media in the last few days. There are a few points of interest in this whole story.

Firstly, a lot of people are saying this new endeavor by Google is retribution for Groupon refusing the buy-out offer. They allegedly turned down a 6 billion $ offer from the search engine giant. Interestingly enough, not long after, Google starts up its own service with Google Offers. It seems that this new service is slightly different from the group-buying services like Groupon, SwagJag, Swarm Jam or others. They instead display simple discounts for smaller, local businesses in their maps service.

One way or another, Google becomes another major player in the online discounts game. After seeing some initial results, their discounts are rather lackluster and certainly don't match up to the usual 50% Groupon offers every single day! Here is a little more info from Mashable.

Groupon for everybody!

There have been sensational deals from Groupon lately. This company is getting really huge and I think we all stand to profit from the fantastic deals they have been able to negociate as of late. It states that Google offered to buy Groupon for over $5 billion. That's a lot of money!!! They offer daily deals to restaurants or activities or something cool in your city and if enough people buy it (I've yet to see a deal not work), you are emailed a gift certificate the very next day! Indeed, they have been dominating the market.

Free Lady Gaga tickets ?

So I've been thinking about sending my daughter to the Lady Gaga concert. I'm not prepared to shell out serious money on tickets but I'm willing to put in a little effort and if it works out, then good! So I've looked around and had found this contest but it hardly looked to be legit. So I did a little research and it seems it actually works. In essence, what you may get is a free Ticketmaster gift card to get the tickets of your choice. There have been a few winners registered all over the web and I think they draw it once a month. Usually, contests like these are a waste of time but I figure if I'm gonna be online anyways, it only takes a few seconds to enter my e-mail and I have nothing to lose! The importance of research... and a Tabasco coupon!

Good day, fellow cheapskates!

I've been following a lot of you on Twitter and catching all kinds of offers and coupons for various products that we buy regularly. And it got me thinking... A lot of these coupons come directly from the manufacturers website. It would be impossible to think that we can each check all of the companies websites before we buy anything so that is why the community effort is so important. By sharing the coupons and offers we do find with each other, weather it be on Twitter or with blogs like this one, we make the task more manageable.
So I want to thank you all who take the time to share with others, in order to help us all save a few dollars. I've found that Twitter is especially useful for this kind of thing; follow me @thrills4cheap.
